Grants support programs that benefit children and families in Eastern CT
The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation recently awarded numerous grants to support 35 programs that address education, economic development, food insecurity, and essential needs in the region.
The mission of the Foundation, a 501(c)3 overseen by a volunteer board with support from the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT, is to enhance and enrich education and economic opportunities, especially for children and families, in The High Hopes Holiday Market is going virtual. The virtual Market will open November 15th and conclude on Small Business Saturday, November 28th.

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation awarded grants in excess of $94,000 in support of 37 programs that benefit children and families in the region on March 24, 2020.

All volunteers must attend a General Orientation prior to volunteering. The General Orientation begins in the classroom with an overview of High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, who we serve, our horses, and our policies and procedures. It also includes a tour of the facility. At the General Orientation, volunteers will choose a role(s) they are interested in and High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc. in Old Lyme appointed Jacqueline Kangley as its new Chair of the Board of Trustees for a two-year term.
Kangley was introduced to therapeutic riding by her Essex Elementary School classmates and has been a volunteer at High Hopes since 2004. She has been a Trustee since 2015 and currently volunteers in the therapeutic riding program and serves on the Program, Marketing Advisory, Event, and Development Committees. She has Co-Chaired the ‘Concert in the Barn’ and served Combined Donations from Charter Oak and Its Members Benefit 345 Charities Waterford, CT – Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s Matching Gifts Program’s donations during 2018 reached nearly $400,000, and the combined donations from the credit union and its members were able to assist 345 charities and non-profit groups.
“The overwhelming success of our 2018 Matching Gifts Program means that nearly $400,000 in combined donations from Charter Oak and our generous members were provided to help those in need,” Norwich, CT – The Dime Bank Foundation has announced that their 2018 philanthropic contributions back to the community has now surpassed $200,000 with their most recent gifting of over $75,000 to twenty-five local charities as part of the Bank’s annual “Season of Giving.” Every year at the holidays, donations are made throughout the community by Dime in an effort to help assure that those in need are cared for in life’s most basic needs – food, warm clothing and shelter.

Old Lyme, CT – High Hopes Therapeutic Riding Inc. announced that John Catlett has been appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees. Catlett takes over from Barbara Earle Ballard who today retired from her latest three-year tenure as Chair, and after over 20 years serving the whole High Hopes community.
Catlett will lead an experienced team of Trustees and Officers including Vice Chairs Seymour Smith of Essex, Scott Douglas of Waterford, CT – Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s Community Giving Grant Program funded nine grants totaling $32,000 in its first quarter.
Grant recipients included High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc.; Little Angels Program; Madonna Place; Falcon Music Boosters, Inc.; Salt Marsh Opera; S.T.E.P.S., Inc.; and Norwich Human Services. Awards ranged from $500 to $3,000.

This fall High Hopes has volunteer opportunities in sidewalking, leading, horse care, equine therapy programs, special events, office support and more. Experience is not required; training is provided. The minimum age for volunteers is 14 years old. No horse experience is necessary. General New Volunteer Orientation is required before all other training. Volunteer training will take Old Lyme, CT – Caitlin Nuhn of Westbrook, CT, has joined High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc. as Program Director. In this role, she will oversee High Hopes’ therapeutic riding programs which serve more than 1,500 participants a year.
A graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, Caitlin earned a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. She is a life-long equestrian whose association with High Hopes goes back to her high school years when she volunteered with the organization.
Most Old Lyme, CT – High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, one of the oldest and largest therapeutic riding centers in the United States, recently elected two new members to its Board of Trustees. John Catlett, and Jacqueline Kangley, both of Hadlyme, were voted into office at High Hopes’ 41st Annual Meeting in late October.
John Catlett spent 26 years with global consulting firm Accenture before retiring as a senior partner. In that role, he focused on the pharmaceutical industry specializing in Research and High Hopes is pleased to announce that Liz Adams, High Hopes Program Director, has successfully completed the requirements to be a PATH Intl. Master Instructor, one of only 29 in the country.
The PATH Intl. Master Instructor Certification is the highest certification level an instructor can achieve through PATH Intl., designed for those instructors with career involvement in therapeutic riding and other equine-assisted activities and therapies.
